Santa Barbara Triathlon, August 24 - 26, 2012
Meet Jacob

Jacob Mansbach first came to the Foodbank as a volunteer for our BackPack program. Inspired by the effort and mission of the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County, Jacob has now made it his quest to raise $4,000 for the Foodbank as he competes in the Sprint Course in the Santa Barbara Triathlon August 26th.

Follow his page to see his progress as he reaches his goal for the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County here.
The Foodbank triathletes have set a goal of $2,500 to raise through their personal participation. In Santa Barbara County, 21,000 children who receive subsidized lunches during
the school year get nothing in the summer. What can you do to help? Donate the
money that you would spend on lunch in support of Foodbank’s Picnic in the Park
Program. The Picnic in the Park Program, a summer feeding program, will serve
nutritious lunches, and provide physical activities and nutrition education for
low-income youth. Beginning in June, the Foodbank will distribute nutritious
lunches Monday through Friday for a 10 week period at 17 sites countywide. The
Foodbank’s goal is to distribute 20,000 meals this summer. Share Your Lunch

The Foodbank has been selected by Montecito Bank & Trust and the community to be
beneficiary of the 2012 Santa Barbara Triathlon. Montecito Bank & Trust’s President and CEO Janet A. Garufis stated: “We are so proud to announce that the Foodbank of Santa Barbara has been named the
official beneficiary of the 2012 Santa Barbara Triathlon. We
were completely overwhelmed by the community support
and votes that came in for all nine of the nonprofits, but in the end the Foodbank’s persistence and hard work led them to
receive an impressive 30% of the votes. Montecito Bank & Trust actively supports the critical work of the Foodbank.”

“Foodbank staff is now walking the talk, or hopefully running, swimming and biking the walk. Nine of us will be competing in the Santa Barbara Triathlon," conveyed Chief Executive Officer, Erik Talkin, who laughed that he will becompeting ‘though only with himself’ along with his wife, Mari, and two of his children, Felix and Ella, with the goal of fundraising forthe Foodbank. "I’m thrilled that so many of mycolleagues will be joining me on race day, including Eloisa Chavez, Gina Fischer, Serena Fuller and Jane Lindsey. Our mission has evolved. We want to end hunger, but also transform the health of the community through good nutrition and now exercise,” added Mr. Talkin.
